MINUTES FROM APAS GENERAL MEETING

June 12, 2002

Sally Kenney called the meeting to order at 12:40. Minutes for the previous general meeting are available and will be printed in the next newsletter. Sally announced that Diane Scacchetti has been transferred to an exempt position in Human Resource and that we will need a new treasurer for the Executive Committee almost immediately. Those interested should let Sally know. Gary Carlile provided an update on the negotiations of the other unions, focusing on the issue of healthcare benefits; Sally noted that Carol Cooke and Greg Gulas are the APAS representatives on the Health Care Advisory Task Force. Gary reported that negotiations between the University and both ACE and YSU-OEA have been difficult, even contentious.

Jean Engle announced that volunteers are needed for a four-hour freeway clean-up, set for the end of June, and noted that APAS had agreed to take responsibility for a specific corner, which is designated by an APAS sign. Ohio Reads certificates were distributed to the 6 APAS volunteers, who helped students at North Elementary: M. Munroe, J. Taylor, H. Patrick, S. Kenney, M. North, and J. Engle. Sally Kenney reported on the status of the pay grade study, noting that the survey has been sent out and returned. The JIFs are problematic, however, because of downloading difficulties. Completing a JIF will be a lengthy task of 3 or more hours and must be reviewed and signed of on by supervisors. The intention is to complete the study by the end of summer and to then re-open negotiations. Re-opening negotiations, though, does not include the strike capability, which would instead be held in abeyance until the next negotiations. Tentative dates: a.) June 17-JIFS to be e-mailed; b.) July 19-JIFS returned to Human Resources; c.) August 26-recommendations from Buck.

The next Executive Committee meeting will be June 13. The flooding in Cushwa Hall was discussed with concern to health issues. A report on air quality should be completed within 6 weeks. The meeting adjourned at 1:15.

Respectfully submitted,

Sherri Zander, Recording Secretary
