Youngstown State University Association of Professional and Administrative Staff

MINUTES FROM APAS GENERAL MEETING

October 22 , 2003

Meeting was held in the Ohio Room of Kilcawley Center and called to order by President Sherri Zander at noon.

Presentation by Beth Nagy, Members’ Benefit Representative for NEA.

Nagy spoke to the membership regarding the many benefits available for NEA members. She dispersed printed information that outlined various services performed by NEA including, but not limited to, financial planning and home and/or school financing. She encouraged all members to take advantage of the services because they are paid for with our dues. She cautioned members to make certain that family members are aware of the additional life insurance benefit from NEA that APAS members are entitled to.

Introduction of Executive Committee

Zander introduced members of the Executive Committee and encouraged building reps to make contact with their respective building personnel.

Financial Report

Mary Ellen Munroe gave an abbreviated accounting of the APAS financial standing. She reported a balance of at least $36,690.70. A mix-up with the bank and YSU’s reporting system was blamed for the inaccurate report.

Grievance Officer Report

Jody Patrick, grievance officer, reported that APAS had just settled grievance #21 with the University. He said that the meetings “worked out well.” He explained that he was currently involved in several ‘meet and confers’ and said that he hoped they would turn out as well. He encouraged the membership to contact their building rep before contacting him.

Gary Carlile

Carlile reported on the OEA Fund for Children and Public Education. He explained how the funds are used to promote candidates who pledge their support of higher education. Carlile suggested that the membership create a campaign to institute regular contributions to the Fund through payroll deduction. He explained the APAS Executive Committee’s decision not to support the United Way campaign, and brought the membership up to date on the Ohio Tuition Trust.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:30 PM.

Respectfully submitted,
