MINUTES FROM APAS GENERAL MEETING

March 16 , 2005

President Sally Kenney opened the meeting at 11:15 in the Ohio Room, Kilcawley Center.

Minutes and Financial Report

Minutes from the last general meeting are on the website for viewing, http://ysuapas.ohea.us.
Mary Ellen Munroe reported that APAS has a fund balance of $40,975.99.

Announcements

Amy Cossentino was introduced as the new Vice-President. Amy took over for Sally when Sally returned to the President’s position upon Sherri Martz’ retirement.

The faculty and ACE unions are in the process of negotiating new contracts, and members were informed that the APAS membership may be called upon to support these unions in the next couple of months. The health care compensation issue will be a major negotiating point. Gary Carlile gave a short summary of the recently completed job/salary study of ACE positions.

Grievance Chair Report

Jody Patrick reported that APAS filed its 23rd Grievance for failure to follow procedural policies. A hearing was held last week where the University admitted they were at fault. The outcome ruled in our favor. There will be a hearing at the end of the month in the Darryl Adams case.

Sally gave a PowerPoint presentation illustrating many of the important yet subtle benefits outlined in the APAS contract. Among the contract articles that members should read and fully understand are:

• Article 9D – Vacancies, Transfers, Promotions

• “I didn’t know we had that!” – Movement Within Grade, Distinguished Service Award, Staff Development Leave (6.1), Emergency Leave (7.16), Continuing Education Fee Remission, Degree Adjustment ($500).
