MINUTES FROM APAS GENERAL MEETING

October 31, 2006

Sue Miller, Vice-President, opened the meeting at 12:25 P.M. in the Ohio Room, Kilcawley Center and introduced Kathy Ferguson as a guest speaker on the healthcare programs.


Healthcare Update

Kathy Ferguson from Human Resources presented information on the Flexible Spending Account program. All forms must be submitted by Nov. 20th in order to participate in this program. Information Brochures with forms included were previously distributed to all members. Letters will also be sent out to everyone asking them to fill out the necessary forms for the pre-tax basis payment. The maximum to be taken out is $5,000. In addition to medical expenses, this money may be used for transit/parking expenses, adoption and childcare/eldercare dependent expenses, etc. Those members who are covered by Anthem are required to produce receipts for reimbursement.

Employee premium costs for healthcare insurance will be deducted beginning with the January 15th pay. The cost will be either 0.75% of salary for individual coverage and 1.5% for family coverage. There are two forms to be filed; one for premium pass through, the other for the working spouse.

Treasurer's Report

Matt Morrone, Treasurer gave a financial report as follows:

Grievance Report

Jody Patrick, Grievance Officer, reported the “meet and confer” process is encouraged prior to actually filing a grievance. He also stated that APAS has established good rapport with the administration for the most part.

Introduction of New Officers/Building Reps

Todd introduced all new APAS Officers, building representatives, HEAC and NEOEA reps.

Helen Trapp, the new LRC, was unable to attend today’s meeting.

General Business Report

Todd announced 23 members are currently seeking continuity of employment. Suzanne Miller, VP, is helping out with this process.

Labor Management Council

Currently the university administration and representatives from all four unions (presidents or their designees) are meeting on a monthly basis to discuss concerns. The goal is to build rapport between labor and management and to keep the channels of communication open. The council is in its beginning stages trying to develop a mission statement as well as to deal with issues and concerns with the upcoming 2009 contracts. The STEM project involving departmental changes has also been discussed recently.

Todd has encouraged members to e-mail him or call him if there are any issues anyone wants taken to the council meetings. Caution is advised when using e-mail which is publicly accessible.
